Taco Burgers

These Taco Burgers were my kiddo’s idea, combining his favorite foods: tacos and hamburgers. They are totally adaptable and super easy for a weeknight meal!

Taco Burgers.. A simple hamburger that you can top with all your favorite Taco Toppers!!

Dinner time at my house lately has been basically a game of Jenga…there are so many moving parts, that finding a moment for us all to sit down and eat together seems like a luxury.

Sports practices, end of the school year concerts and presentations..the weeknights right now are filled with all sorts of happy problems.

But with that said, I have resorted to warming up chicken nuggets in the microwave with a side of baby carrots and calling it dinner.

It’s real life.

Anyhow, when we get the rare night to prepare a meal, even if it’s a quick one, I try and make it happen.

In my house taco night is the gold standard…but so is Build Your Own Burger night…

So my smarty pants kid had a great idea of putting the two favorites together.

I have decided that the allure of taco night is everyone is allowed to make it themselves, choosing their own toppings…so we’ve taken that same idea here with a burger…Good stuff you guys!

How to Make This Taco Burger Recipe

It’s basically an idea I’m selling here, rather than a recipe. But I have found that 2 pounds of ground beef mixed with 1 packet of Taco seasoning is the perfect amount for these burgers. It gives you lightly seasoned meat…enough to taste the taco, but not enough to overpower.

Ground beef and taco seasoning

I use 85/15 ground beek when making burgers. It’s certianly not the leanest, but I just find that it makes the best burgers. Feel free to use whatever type of ground beef you prefer.

Form them into 4 oz patties. I bust out my kitchen scale when making burgers…

Quarter Pound Burger

I popped them on the grill…about 5 minutes on a hot, preheated grill.

Grilling burgers on the grill

While the burgers were cooking, I toasted by buns in a lightly buttered skillet. It’s just the way to go.

And I set up my topper station…we used salsa, guacamole, cheese and tortillas chips.

The chips are the MUST. You have to use these on your burger.

Of course you could add onion, raw or fried, lettuce, sour cream…whatever you like on your tacos!

I placed the cheese on the burgers when they were almost done cooking, so the cheese could melt.

Then we got to assembling our burgers…

My kiddo’s burger was up first with guac, salsa and chips…

Topping my Taco burger with my favorite taco toppings!

Smoosh it all together and you’ve got this bad boy…

Taco Burgers.. 2 family favorites in one place!

What a gorgeous burger, right?
