Spice Cake Knock You Naked Brownies

These Spice Cake Knock You Naked Brownies are a fun twist on a classic recipe!

Don’t be scared by these brownies. I mean, they won’t really knock all your clothes off.

But they ARE good…and sweet…and oozy caramelly…pretty much everything a brownie should be. Except the fact that they aren’t really a brownie at all.

Hear me out.

They are brownie-ish…But for the fall season, when everyone is eating nutmeg out the wahzoo, I thought, “Why not a Spice Brownie?”, right?

They’re ooey…they’re gooey…they’re spiced…they’re chocolatey…So yummy!

Just grab a Spice Cake Mix…Actually you can do these with any cake mix you’d like really! Mix that with some melted butter, evaporated milk.

And of course chocolate chips

Press half the batter into a FULLY LINED 9×9 pan….

Hear me out on this.  DOUBLE LINE THE PAN WITH FOIL!  You don’t want caramel seeping underneath, making it impossible to remove. TRUST me.

Also, go heavy handed with the cooking spray to grease the foil. Heavvyyyyy handedddddd.

Bake the bottom of the brownie for about 8 minutes or so.  While that’s baking melt some caramel.

Also, please note that I used Werther’s Baking Caramels.  This isn’t a sponsored post…they aren’t paying me to say this…but PLEASE LORD go buy these caramels.  I need Werther’s to continue making them for all eternity.  Based on the easiness to unwrap alone they are brilliant.  I can’t say they taste that much better than their plastic wrapped counterpart, but they don’t take 70 hundred hours to unwrap.

Anyhow, melt your caramel with a little more evaporated milk…

When your crust is done, it will look like this…

And then pour that caramel all over it.

Now grab the remaining dough and press it out flat on a lightly floured counter top…

And then place it on top of your caramel and bake it some more…

Now you’ll need to let that cool completely.  And when it’s cooled, you need to chill it.  I know, it’s annoying.  But you must, otherwise you’ll have a messy caramel messy mess.

But when they’re ready…

Spice Cake Knock You Naked Brownies

Description

makes 16 brownies

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (18.5 oz) box Spice Cake Mix
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 15 oz unwrapped caramels
  • additional 1/2 cup evaporated milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Line a 9×9 pan with foil. Make sure foil comes up high on all sides. Spray very liberally with cooking spray.
  3. In large bowl combine cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and melted butter. Stir until combined. Mixture will be thick.
  4. Stir in chocolate chips.
  5. Divide dough in half and press half into bottom of prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
  7. While baking melt caramels and additional 1/2 cup evaporated milk over medium low heat in a medium saucepan until smooth.
  8. When bottom layer is done, remove from oven and pour caramel over top.
  9. Flatten remaining dough on a floured work surface and place on top of caramel. Mine ripped here and there, so place it as best you can.
  10. Bake an additional 20-25 minutes.
  11. Cool pan on a wire rack completely. Cover brownies and chill for at least 2 hours.
  12. When ready to serve remove brownies from pan using the foil and cut into squares.

I love those caramels too! I have tried to re create them at home with no success, but I do think the point is re create all things. Some candies are just too untouchable for the home cook.

What combo and that pool of caramel is hypnotic!

  2. Rochelle @ Oh So Sweet Baker

Brownies that look this good and has flavours of spices and caramel can sure knock anyone naked

When I read the title, I knew you were going to do a riff on Ree’s post and couldn’t wait to see what it was. These look incredible and I love the combo of caramels with about anything but the spice cake sounds perfect!

The fact that you said it’s not a sponsored post but that you love those caramels for unwrapping alone – I supposedly have some of those caramels en route to me and was dreading the unwrapping process (there are recipes I don’t make just b/c I cannot be bothered to unwrap caramels!) but now that I see them and hear what you said, relieved. These look so good Shelly!

  4. I crack up laughing whenever I read your recipies!! You make them so entertaining as well as sounding sooooooooooooo delicious!! <3 <3 <3

I love cinnamon in chocolate, so spice brownies sound excellent. I can’t wait to give these a try.

  6. Oh I love the idea of spice cake brownies and the gooey caramel layer just makes you want to dive right in!

  7. Rebecca @ Dorm Room Baker

This is such a creative twist on brownies and I bet they tastes amazing. I’d love to whip up a batch right now (or I would if it wasn’t 11 at night haha).

  8. You are incredible! Alway so much variety. I never even knew naked brownies excited or really even spice cake. I was raised on chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Which basically means chocolate chips cookies and chocolate cake. Not complaining, but there was not mush variety!

I LOVE these bars. That gooey caramel layer and the chocolate and the spice? So amazing.
