Description

These rich and chewy Chocolate Sugar Cookies are super chocolatey and easy to decorate! They’re an irresistible weeknight treat or holiday dessert made with just 7 ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 3/4 cups cocoa powder, plus more for dusting
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix the butter and sugar together for 1 minute, until fluffy.
  2. Add in the egg, vanilla and salt and mix for another minute until smooth, scraping the sides of the bowl as necessary.
  3. Turn the mixer to low and add in the cocoa powder and flour, mixing until combined and uniform in color.
  4. Place a piece of parchment paper onto a baking sheet and lightly dust the parchment with cocoa powder. Place the dough onto the parchment paper and flatten it with your hands. Place another piece of parchment paper on top of the dough and use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to 1/4-inch thickness.
  5. Place in the fridge for 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line another baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  7. Remove the baking sheet from the fridge and peel the top piece of parchment paper off of the dough. If you need to roll the dough out further, do it now, to ensure uniform thickness.
  8. Using a cookie cutter, cut the shapes out of the dough out and place them onto the newly prepared baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the cookies are just set on top. The longer you bake them, the crisper they’ll get. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating.
