These Bacon Cheddar Scones are the perfect dinner side or simple breakfast! Perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside.

I know these scones might not look like much.
But I am obsessed with them. And basically all scones, frankly.
I was one of those people who said they didn’t like scones. Well, that was because I had never had one done properly.
Scones must be crusty and flaky on the outside, while tender and buttery on the inside.
And I promise they aren’t as tricky as you would think!
Anyhow, in my quest to make the perfect scone I discovered the recipe for these savory scones.
I mean, bacon and cheddar? How can it be bad?
Also, let me say that scones are the perfect lady food…and what I am doing today with a bunch of other blogger friends is participating in an online baby shower for our friend Jamie.

Jamie is the classy lady behind My Baking Addiction. I have been a fan of hers for years and am SO happy that she is expecting a little baby baking addict.
So yeah. Scones, babies and Jamie.
It’s a perfect day!

These have a few steps, but they are all simple. Promise.
Just fry up some bacon… You’ll want it nice and crispy.

Then chop it into bits…

Add some butter into your dry ingredients…

And blend together using your pastry cutter.

Stir in some cheese next. Oh yeah!

Add in your bacon, chives if you’re feeling crazy and some cream…

Work that together until it forms a dough.

Work it out on a lightly floured surface into a circle.
Then place it on a baking sheet and brush with a little more cream…

Slice it into the traditional wedges…

And separate them to bake.

Bake them up until they are golden brown…

And serve with or without butter. But I say WITH butter.

So so so yummy!

Bacon Cheddar Scones
Description
makes 8 scones
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 heaping cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup + 2 Tbsp heavy cream
- 8 slices bacon, cooked until crisp and chopped
- 1 Tbsp heavy cream, to brush on top
- optional ~ 2 Tbsp chopped chives
- optional ~ 1/2 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside.
- in a large bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and garlic powder (if adding). Using a pastry cutter, mix in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse sand. Stir in cheddar cheese. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl combine 3/4 cup heavy cream, chopped bacon and chives (If adding).
- Make a well in center of dry ingredients and pour heavy cream mixture into the well. Using your hands or a fork work the dough until it comes together adding the 2 Tbsp of extra heavy cream as needed. Dough will be slightly dry, but will hold together.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead dough for 1 minute and form into a circle, about 1 inch thick.
- Place dough onto prepared baking sheet and cut into 8 equal triangles. Separate the triangles and bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden.
- Serve warm.

I’ve got to make a batch of these soon. Love this combo!
Yes please…wow!! Must make these soooon!!
The most perfect scone I ever had (and still dream about) was at the Farmers Market in Austin while we were at BHF!……these look just as incredible with a flavor combo that can’t be beat!! GREAT idea Shelly!
TOTALLY agree that anyone who says they don’t like scones just hasn’t tried a good one yet! One bite of these bacony-cheesey wedges and any doubters would be sold for life.
I am completely on board with all things bacon. These look great! I’ve been trying to cut back on sugar, so these are practically health food, right??
I’m with Kristan. Let’s cover ’em in cream gravy too. I made bacon cheddar scones a while back, but instead of chives I added rosemary. Chives are a *great* idea. Why didn’t I think of that?! You’re just too good at this baking thing, Shelly. Thank you so much for celebrating Jamie and Baby E today. <3
Yum these look amazing! That bacon is so crispy and not to mention the cheese. We always have scone for breakfast in Australia, in fact they are must for Sunday morning breakfast.
These need nothing more than butter or more cheese. Perfect!
Savory scone! They are definitely the perfect lady food… happy baby shower, Jamie!
I love that you clarified that they can be for breakfast as well. Thats good to know! I will probably never find out if they actually taste good for breakfast though… I really can’t see them lasting beyond dinner! Beautiful recipe!
Oh my gosh, need. NEEEEEED. Would dipping these in cream gravy be overkill? Probably? Crap.
