Blizzard Bars

Three blizzard bars stacked on a napkin

So let me tell you a secret.

I lied for the first time ever about my age the other day.

And I feel weird and ashamed about it.

Here’s the scenario…

I was at the salon getting my hair done and I was talking to the girl who does facials there.  I was complaining about the stupid wrinkles that I am getting around my stupid eyes and asking her about miracle treatments that can be done so I look like I’m 18 again.  Or even 28.  Whatever.

Anyhow, she asked me how old I was.  It wasn’t a rude question and fit in with the context of the discussion, but I honestly froze.  And then lied.

I told her I was ONE YEAR younger than I am.  WHY WOULD I DO THAT?  ONE YEAR?  Not FIVE years?  Dumb.

What in the world difference does one year make?  Let me answer that.  It makes no difference…

But I did it, and then instantly I was unable to make eye contact with her.  So yeah, I’m pretty sure she knew I was lying, and not only that, I’m pretty sure that she thinks that I am WAY older than what I said.  So basically I have the urge now to tell her that I was mistaken, and completely forgot about 2012, making me a whole year older than I claimed to be, which sounds way more liar-y than if I had just told her the truth in the first place.

And also, why would I lie to someone who I am talking to about my wrinkles??  Wouldn’t telling her I’m younger than I am be a WORSE scenario?  Like oh honey, yeah you look way older than that?!  I should have said that I am 65 and then let her compliment me on how young I look.

Ugh.

Moral of the story…never lie.

The end.

Anyway I decided when I got home I needed to make treats, that would make me fat, which will ultimately fill in all the wrinkles.

My mind is a scary place to live.

Blizzard Bars.  Make them and live wrinkle free.

Blizzard Bars | Cookies and Cups

I’m calling these Blizzard Bars for 2 reasons.

One, because we just had a blizzard and I made them on that day.  I know, boring.

Second because you can totally add ANY mix in you want, just like the DQ Blizzards.

M&Ms?  Yep, those would work.

Oreo chunks?  Totally.

Twix?  Yes please.

I narrowed it down to a few of my favorites:  chocolate, caramel and peanut butter cups.

What’s best about these is that that they are crazy easy.

Watch….

Ingredients for Blizzard Bars.

All you need are a few things:
I even bought graham cracker crumbs in a box because I was feeling lazy.

A stick of butter melting in a baking dish in the oven
Graham cracker crumbs with a pinch of salt in a measuring cup
Sweetened condensed milk being poured from a can
Sweetened condensed milk over graham cracker crumbs in a baking dish
Caramel bits on top of sweetened condensed milk and graham cracker crumbs in a baking dish
Chocolate chips being poured from a measuring cup into a baking dish of sweetened condensed milk and caramel bits
Blizzard bars in a baking dish with chocolate chips and toffee bits

To make this a one pan from start to finish dessert, I melted my butter in my 9×13 while the oven was preheating.
When the butter is melted, add in your graham cracker crumbs and a pinch of salt.
Mix that together and press into the pan to create your crust.
Next pour a whole can of sweetened condensed milk on top…
Carefully spread it so it covers the crust.
Next it’s time for your add ins. I started with Caramel Bits…
Then some chocolate chips
Just make sure everything is evenly distributed…
Then bake it up!

Trader Joe's mini peanut butter cups in a plastic container

When it was done I topped it with some peanut butter cups. I used these little cuties I found at Trader Joe’s
I added these after I baked them because I didn’t want the peanut butter cups to melt.

So as soon as the bars came our of the oven I sprinkled them on, so they would melt enough to stick, but not enough that they wouldn’t hold their shape…
Just let them cool completely…I actually stuck them in the fridge to speed up the process…and then cut into bars.
Yum.

You are funny Shelly, and these look so yummy!
When you are my age, no one asks you your age anymore:) One thing I have learned is that a smile is an instant face lift! It really is; it fills in all the wrinkles (most anyway)!

  2. Dorothy @ Crazy for Crust

Wrinkles. YUCK. I haven’t lied about my age yet…but I’m sure close. Maybe I can make these bars to fill out the lines a little? LOL, they look amazing!!

  3. Too funny about your lie – I mean, not that you DID lie but that it wasn’t even WORTH IT! ONE YEAR!! LOL! I do like your thinking on getting fat to fill in the wrinkles….hmmm maybe I’d better not try to lose all that weight this year. :S
Now I am thinking of Blizzards and we do NOT have a DQ in this podunk town. Isn’t that a crime? Don’t ALL podunk towns require at least a DQ?? No DQ, no ingredients. Poo

  4. I love Trader Joe’s mini PB cups! I’ve used them in place of cookies and cream drops in those chocolate cookies of yours and they are life changing!

  5. Colleen @ What's Baking in the Barbershop?!

Heck yeah! These are some awesome looking blizzard bars! If only I had made them during the blizzard. Next time! Oh wait, I don’t want there to be a next time – no more blizzards, please.

  6. Katrina @ Warm Vanilla Sugar

These look so freaking tasty! And don’t worry about the age thing…it happens to everyone 🙂

  7. DessertForTwo

These look gorgeous! Soooo, fat fills in wrinkles? hmmm. Excuse me while I order a double bacon cheeseburger.

  8. You are hilarious and those bars look amazing. If they will fill in all my wrinkles I’m baking dozens of batches 🙂

So, um, you’re kind of my hero and I hate you at the same time. Simply because I don’t have *any* of these ingredients on hand, and dude, there’s snow outside. I don’t do the outdoors thing when there’s frozen water on the ground.

    1. Amber…..that’s why these are called “Blizzard Bars”….when it is snowing like heck and you have no ingredients!! I hope you finally got to try them! :0)
