So let me tell you a secret.
I lied for the first time ever about my age the other day.
And I feel weird and ashamed about it.
Here’s the scenario…
I was at the salon getting my hair done and I was talking to the girl who does facials there. I was complaining about the stupid wrinkles that I am getting around my stupid eyes and asking her about miracle treatments that can be done so I look like I’m 18 again. Or even 28. Whatever.
Anyhow, she asked me how old I was. It wasn’t a rude question and fit in with the context of the discussion, but I honestly froze. And then lied.
I told her I was ONE YEAR younger than I am. WHY WOULD I DO THAT? ONE YEAR? Not FIVE years? Dumb.
What in the world difference does one year make? Let me answer that. It makes no difference…
But I did it, and then instantly I was unable to make eye contact with her. So yeah, I’m pretty sure she knew I was lying, and not only that, I’m pretty sure that she thinks that I am WAY older than what I said. So basically I have the urge now to tell her that I was mistaken, and completely forgot about 2012, making me a whole year older than I claimed to be, which sounds way more liar-y than if I had just told her the truth in the first place.
And also, why would I lie to someone who I am talking to about my wrinkles?? Wouldn’t telling her I’m younger than I am be a WORSE scenario? Like oh honey, yeah you look way older than that?! I should have said that I am 65 and then let her compliment me on how young I look.
Ugh.
Moral of the story…never lie.
The end.
Anyway I decided when I got home I needed to make treats, that would make me fat, which will ultimately fill in all the wrinkles.
My mind is a scary place to live.
Blizzard Bars. Make them and live wrinkle free.
I’m calling these Blizzard Bars for 2 reasons.
One, because we just had a blizzard and I made them on that day. I know, boring.
Second because you can totally add ANY mix in you want, just like the DQ Blizzards.
M&Ms? Yep, those would work.
Oreo chunks? Totally.
Twix? Yes please.
I narrowed it down to a few of my favorites: chocolate, caramel and peanut butter cups.
What’s best about these is that that they are crazy easy.
Watch….
All you need are a few things:
I even bought graham cracker crumbs in a box because I was feeling lazy.
To make this a one pan from start to finish dessert, I melted my butter in my 9×13 while the oven was preheating.
When the butter is melted, add in your graham cracker crumbs and a pinch of salt.
Mix that together and press into the pan to create your crust.
Next pour a whole can of sweetened condensed milk on top…
Carefully spread it so it covers the crust.
Next it’s time for your add ins. I started with Caramel Bits…
Then some chocolate chips…
Just make sure everything is evenly distributed…
Then bake it up!
When it was done I topped it with some peanut butter cups. I used these little cuties I found at Trader Joe’s…
I added these after I baked them because I didn’t want the peanut butter cups to melt.
So as soon as the bars came our of the oven I sprinkled them on, so they would melt enough to stick, but not enough that they wouldn’t hold their shape…
Just let them cool completely…I actually stuck them in the fridge to speed up the process…and then cut into bars.
Yum.

recipe adapted from Bake or Break
I made these and they were so delicious. I did have a few problems though. I think I baked them a bit too long because the edges were carmalized a bit too much for me. However I felt like the middle was too moist. The other problem I had was it was hard taking them out of the pan to cut them. I used a disposible pan and they stuck to the edges. Next time I will lower the oven temperature and line the pan with foil that is buttered well. This should help a lot. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
They are in the over right now, and smell amazing! I’m making them for my sons Boy Scout Court of Honor tonight. I know the boys will devour them. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Made the blizzard bars this afternoon, and my husband, son, and I tasted them this evening. The flavor is wonderful, especially with the Reeses on top. But they are very chewy, so much so that my husband broke a tooth from the caramel bits. They get very hard and are hard to chew.
i’m reading this as i’m sitting here eating oatmeal out of a pb jar and all i can think about is this whole pan of bars. my husband would love these!
I can’t tell you how happy I am the blizzard is over and done with.
Not having power for 3 days was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
Wouldn’t have been so bad had it been summer, the cold was brutal!
