Blizzard Bars

Three blizzard bars stacked on a napkin

So let me tell you a secret.

I lied for the first time ever about my age the other day.

And I feel weird and ashamed about it.

Here’s the scenario…

I was at the salon getting my hair done and I was talking to the girl who does facials there.  I was complaining about the stupid wrinkles that I am getting around my stupid eyes and asking her about miracle treatments that can be done so I look like I’m 18 again.  Or even 28.  Whatever.

Anyhow, she asked me how old I was.  It wasn’t a rude question and fit in with the context of the discussion, but I honestly froze.  And then lied.

I told her I was ONE YEAR younger than I am.  WHY WOULD I DO THAT?  ONE YEAR?  Not FIVE years?  Dumb.

What in the world difference does one year make?  Let me answer that.  It makes no difference…

But I did it, and then instantly I was unable to make eye contact with her.  So yeah, I’m pretty sure she knew I was lying, and not only that, I’m pretty sure that she thinks that I am WAY older than what I said.  So basically I have the urge now to tell her that I was mistaken, and completely forgot about 2012, making me a whole year older than I claimed to be, which sounds way more liar-y than if I had just told her the truth in the first place.

And also, why would I lie to someone who I am talking to about my wrinkles??  Wouldn’t telling her I’m younger than I am be a WORSE scenario?  Like oh honey, yeah you look way older than that?!  I should have said that I am 65 and then let her compliment me on how young I look.

Ugh.

Moral of the story…never lie.

The end.

Anyway I decided when I got home I needed to make treats, that would make me fat, which will ultimately fill in all the wrinkles.

My mind is a scary place to live.

Blizzard Bars.  Make them and live wrinkle free.

Blizzard Bars | Cookies and Cups

I’m calling these Blizzard Bars for 2 reasons.

One, because we just had a blizzard and I made them on that day.  I know, boring.

Second because you can totally add ANY mix in you want, just like the DQ Blizzards.

M&Ms?  Yep, those would work.

Oreo chunks?  Totally.

Twix?  Yes please.

I narrowed it down to a few of my favorites:  chocolate, caramel and peanut butter cups.

What’s best about these is that that they are crazy easy.

Watch….

Baking ingredients including graham cracker crumbs, butter, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and mini peanut butter cups

All you need are a few things:
I even bought graham cracker crumbs in a box because I was feeling lazy.

A stick of butter melting in a baking dish in the oven
Graham cracker crumbs with a pinch of salt in a measuring cup
Sweetened condensed milk being poured from a can
Sweetened condensed milk over graham cracker crumbs in a baking dish
Caramel bits on top of sweetened condensed milk and graham cracker crumbs in a baking dish
Chocolate chips being poured from a measuring cup into a baking dish of sweetened condensed milk and caramel bits
Blizzard bars in a baking dish with chocolate chips and toffee bits

To make this a one pan from start to finish dessert, I melted my butter in my 9×13 while the oven was preheating.
When the butter is melted, add in your graham cracker crumbs and a pinch of salt.
Mix that together and press into the pan to create your crust.
Next pour a whole can of sweetened condensed milk on top…
Carefully spread it so it covers the crust.
Next it’s time for your add ins. I started with Caramel Bits…
Then some chocolate chips
Just make sure everything is evenly distributed…
Then bake it up!

Trader Joe's mini peanut butter cups in a plastic container

When it was done I topped it with some peanut butter cups. I used these little cuties I found at Trader Joe’s
I added these after I baked them because I didn’t want the peanut butter cups to melt.

So as soon as the bars came our of the oven I sprinkled them on, so they would melt enough to stick, but not enough that they wouldn’t hold their shape…
Just let them cool completely…I actually stuck them in the fridge to speed up the process…and then cut into bars.
Yum.

  1. I’ve been saying I am 110 since my oldest was in the first grade. Now that it’s almost true I’ve upped it to 120. Never was asked a second time except by a guy trying to sell me insurance. I finally told him I was old enough to inform him it wasn’t polite to ask a lady her age.

  2. I legit can not ever remember how old I am. I’m constantly like 30! No, 31! Wait…30? until someone takes pity on me and does the math. It’s embarrassing.

I am going to make these with a pretzel crust since I have a big ole bag of pretzels to use up. I’m sure they’ll be yummy!

Ha! I plan to lie about my age from here on out. I’m Forever 29, the end. And now I am hungry. If I make these I will probably have to lie about how many I ate.

  5. That is too funny, because I worked for a woman that was 72 and told everyone she was 51. She looked at least 65, so it was a total joke. Percentagewise, it would have made me about 24 (I was 35 at the time). I eventually quit because I couldn’t deal with the lie she expected me to perpetuate! My hubby always wants to tell people he’s way older than he is so they’ll think he looks GREAT for his age. Because isn’t that better than looking like hell? Anyway, these bars look FABULOUS at any age! 🙂

ohmygod these look like a college girl’s dream come true. Or mine anyway 😉 and I literally laughed out loud (probably to the confusion of people around me) at the fat filling in the wrinkles. If that is true, count me in !

You are on a roll with desserts today (although I guess it’s just me who’s reading like two months of posts from you in one day). Either way, I love it all!

  8. Ashley @ Wishes and Dishes

I could definitely use some blizzard bars today…..
Also, I haven’t lied about my age yet but it will be a sad day when I have to do that (and that day will probably be very soon…)
