Toffee Brown Sugar Bars

Our kitchen remodel is nearly complete and my husband and I are still married, which is sort of a miracle.

I have told him 40 hundred times that he’s doing things incorrectly…and he has told me 40 hundred and ONE times that I have no experience in hanging cabinets so my pie-hole should stay shutty.

I have repeated the phrase, “I cannot wait until the crown molding is up” at least 7 times a day since the project has started, just so he doesn’t forget to put the crown molding up…

And he has repeated the phrase, “pie-hole shutty” every. single. time.

Ok, he has never said pie-hole shutty…but that’s basically what I can hear his eyes saying when he looks at me.

Also, my husband would never say shutty.  Or pie-hole.

Anyway…I am starting to learn that when I repeat things over and over and over, for example, “can’t wait until the crown molding is up”, that is called “nagging”.

Which I like to refer to as “helpful reminders”.

We will never see eye to eye on that one.

And APPARENTLY husbands don’t like, “helpful reminders” when it comes to home improvement projects.  Or ever, really.

So yeah, we’re still married.

But the crown molding isn’t up yet.

I’ll let you know.

In the meantime let’s do something major with brown sugar and toffee.

Stacked brown sugar toffee bars on parchment paper

These bars are totally simple, but they have flavors that are in-your-face delicious.

Chewy, rich and buttery.  They are perfect and cozy.

I love dark brown sugar, and that’s what I used.  If you don’t love it, you can certainly sub in light brown sugar.

How to Make The Best Toffee Bars

Besides all the other usual suspects (eggs, butter, vanilla etc) you will need Toffee Bits.  I used the kind that are covered in milk chocolate, but you don’t have to.  Totally up to you!

Just mix up a quick batter and add your toffee…

See me there in the mixer bowl?

Yeah, I still wear black capri yoga pants.  I can’t quit them.

Here’s what your bars will look like…

Can you even…?  I mean…

  1. Looks like someone is going to make amazing brownies this weekend
Can’t get enough from the different creativities done over brownies 🙂

Um, repeating something to our husbands is necessary. Or NOTHING would get done. I mean, I spent an hour just this morning talking to my husband about how much I want a keurig. Tonight we’re talking about Christmas ideas and he COULDN’T REMEMBER the Keurig. So, um, you’re totally right to remind him 700 times. 🙂

Ohh I love brown sugar dark or light and these look simply decadent! I see Shoprite products, you must be an east coast girl!

  4. Averie @ Averie Cooks

I make my blondies with the same ratios pretty much as you made these but I use light brown sugar. Now I have to try dark brown. And with toffee bits. I Love Heath Bars! My fave candy bar as a kid was a Heath Bar (or PB cups:))

  5. luv what you do

I don’t know if I”d have any bars to make because I would be licking all the dough off of the mixer blade. I LOVE toffee!

  6. We survived our kitchen remodel too. Some days were questionable, but we did it:) LOVE these bars!

  7. Christina @ Oven Adventures

Mmmm I just bought dark brown sugar and now I know how to stuff my pie hole with it. Y-u-m

Looks delish! I LOVE dark brown sugar. And congrats on still being married though all of this 🙂

  9. Ugh, it’s definitely not nagging. We can’t help it if the men in our lives (albeit sweet, sweet men) forget things like crown molding in your case, or getting a haircut for mine. I mean, we’re only looking out for their best interest (and okay, our own sanity), but still–how can we be blamed for that?!

PS, these bars look phenom. Definitely need one for all of our helpful reminders.

    1. Ahhh yes, nagging. The last time we had a renovation project going on (our living room), I took our two kids and flew to visit my parents. Otherwise…not so sure our marriage would have survived lol These look fabulous and cannot wait to try out the recipe!
