Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies

This Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe from Weelicious Lunches is a new favorite in my house!

As you well know, I am a big fan of the chocolate chip cookie…posting more than my fair share of CCC recipes here on my site.

But never have I posted a Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookie… I mean until today.

But first let me start by saying this post is about cookies, of course it is, but it’s ALSO about the cookbook where I got the recipe: Weelicious Lunches.

Can I tell you how OBSESSED I am with this book?

Please?

Well, I pre-ordered in on Amazon…I had it in my virtual cart literally for months before it came out.

I was also lucky enough to receive an early copy in the mail from Catherine. So I kept one and I gave one to a friend.

Catherine McCord is the blogger behind Weelicious and she is completely fabulous, in the best way possible.

Anyhow, the concept of this book is coming up with lunch box ideas and recipes that are new different and delicious all while being wholesome and nutritious.

I easily get stuck in the PB&J rut when packing my kids lunches…so I couldn’t wait for this book for some inspiration!!

And it did.  Completely inspired.

I have made SO SO many recipes out of this book, from her simple Homemade Nutella to her Zippy Minestrone Soup.

Beyond recipes, there are just some fun ideas on how to pack your kiddo a healthful lunch without breaking the bank or having to buy all the ingredients in the land!

I will say that I went out and bought my kids each a new lunchbox.  It helped amp up the excitement.

My little guy chose the Planetbox.

And my other kiddo chose the Laptop Lunch box.

Both are nice, but the Planetbox is far superior in my opinion.  It’s sturdy, easily washable and totally dishwasher safe.  Yes, it’s a bit of an investment, but this isn’t a lunchbox that you will have to replace anytime soon.

The Laptop Lunchbox is nice and my older kiddo liked the bag design better, but the lids to some of the boxes are hard to put on and take off.  A small complaint, but that’s just what I think. It’s also completely dishwasher safe.

Here are a few examples of how I’ve been packing my kids lunches lately…

I’ve taken a few ideas from her book and then incorporated some things my kids love.  And yes, that means the occasional peanut butter cup 🙂

Using the recipes and tips from her book and then incorporating them into my own daily life is really what I want you to see…yes I do let them eat a pre-packaged applesauce.  I don’t make everything from scratch…you don’t have to…it’s all about thinking outside the box and that’s what I love about this book!!

And that’s where these cookies come into play…

A sweet treat to include in your kid’s lunches…

The whole wheat flour in these cookies isn’t detectable, but it leaves the cookies with a nice chewy consistency that my family loved!  I’ll be making these again for sure!!

  1. I also just found this by happenstance at my library. I flipped through the WHOLE thing and want to make it ALL! My toddler has already tried the cream cheese and jelly “sushi” rolls. Super simple recipes, with many of the staples I already keep in the house. Love it!

  2. My MIL had this book sitting on her counter and I quickly grabbed it and couldn’t put it down. I was sad when she told me she had to return it to the library! It is such a great cookbook with lots of great info!

Your cookies look perfect and now I’m inspired to try ccc with whole wheat! Thanks!

I love chocolate chip cookies! I would have never thought to do a healthy take on them and use whole wheat flour. They look so delicious. I’ll have to give these a go for sure.
