So let me tell you a secret.
I lied for the first time ever about my age the other day.
And I feel weird and ashamed about it.
Here’s the scenario…
I was at the salon getting my hair done and I was talking to the girl who does facials there. I was complaining about the stupid wrinkles that I am getting around my stupid eyes and asking her about miracle treatments that can be done so I look like I’m 18 again. Or even 28. Whatever.
Anyhow, she asked me how old I was. It wasn’t a rude question and fit in with the context of the discussion, but I honestly froze. And then lied.
I told her I was ONE YEAR younger than I am. WHY WOULD I DO THAT? ONE YEAR? Not FIVE years? Dumb.
What in the world difference does one year make? Let me answer that. It makes no difference…
But I did it, and then instantly I was unable to make eye contact with her. So yeah, I’m pretty sure she knew I was lying, and not only that, I’m pretty sure that she thinks that I am WAY older than what I said. So basically I have the urge now to tell her that I was mistaken, and completely forgot about 2012, making me a whole year older than I claimed to be, which sounds way more liar-y than if I had just told her the truth in the first place.
And also, why would I lie to someone who I am talking to about my wrinkles?? Wouldn’t telling her I’m younger than I am be a WORSE scenario? Like oh honey, yeah you look way older than that?! I should have said that I am 65 and then let her compliment me on how young I look.
Ugh.
Moral of the story…never lie.
The end.
Anyway I decided when I got home I needed to make treats, that would make me fat, which will ultimately fill in all the wrinkles.
My mind is a scary place to live.
Blizzard Bars. Make them and live wrinkle free.
I’m calling these Blizzard Bars for 2 reasons.
One, because we just had a blizzard and I made them on that day. I know, boring.
Second because you can totally add ANY mix in you want, just like the DQ Blizzards.
M&Ms? Yep, those would work.
Oreo chunks? Totally.
Twix? Yes please.
I narrowed it down to a few of my favorites: chocolate, caramel and peanut butter cups.
What’s best about these is that that they are crazy easy.
Watch….
All you need are a few things:
I even bought graham cracker crumbs in a box because I was feeling lazy.
To make this a one pan from start to finish dessert, I melted my butter in my 9×13 while the oven was preheating.
When the butter is melted, add in your graham cracker crumbs and a pinch of salt.
Mix that together and press into the pan to create your crust.
Next pour a whole can of sweetened condensed milk on top…
Carefully spread it so it covers the crust.
Next it’s time for your add ins. I started with Caramel Bits…
Then some chocolate chips…
Just make sure everything is evenly distributed…
Then bake it up!
When it was done I topped it with some peanut butter cups. I used these little cuties I found at Trader Joe’s…
I added these after I baked them because I didn’t want the peanut butter cups to melt.
So as soon as the bars came our of the oven I sprinkled them on, so they would melt enough to stick, but not enough that they wouldn’t hold their shape…
Just let them cool completely…I actually stuck them in the fridge to speed up the process…and then cut into bars.
Yum.

I want these. And I want to THANK you for being so dependable with the treats. You never fail. Other food blogs, you know, they’re great and all, but when I sit down on a Monday morning I just want to read about SWEETS and you always deliver.
I want some now, these looks awesome!
That is TOTALLY something I would say! Also I lied the other day about a pair of boxer shorts I was buying for my husband. They were Angry Birds and mostly I bought them so my son would think it was hilarious to see his dad walking around in Angry Bird underwear. Then I saw someone who I kind of know and I completely lied and said they were for my teenage brother. Yeah because buying underwear for your brother isn’t weird or anything.
omg hahahahaa!
lol i’m totally not good at lieing. hang in there. love the concept of the blizzard bars!
Shelly, I laughed SO HARD while reading this post. Good Moral- never lie. I’m pretty sure a few blizzard bars would make me feel a little younger as well! 🙂
The caramel bits look like chick peas! Which, even though you said you can put anything in these bars, would probably be really strange. I just turned 30, so I think if I start eating these bars now, I should be good 😉
I am laughing SO HARD about you making yourself ONE year younger!!! That is priceless! You could easily pass for in your 20s! And, I’m all about the fat smoothing our wrinkles theory…I only wish it worked on cellulite.
OK…the bars. I need them, Shelly, NEED them in my life. Right NOW.
I always think people think I’m lying about my age because I always forget how old I am and then I pause before answering. And I feel like the fact that I forget how old I am is pretty much a testament to the fact that I am old. Way old. Love those little PB cups from Trader Joe’s–yum!
Mercy these bars look absolutely perfect – even though we’re just having rain and no blizzard.
You look great for your advanced age! (KIDDING!). Love these bars, they look to die for!
