Caramel Stuffed Krispie Treats

These easy, no bake, cereal bars are a HUGE crowd pleaser! The gooey filing sandwiched between inside an otherwise traditional krispie treat is unexpected and delicious!

They are made quickly and will be a go-to no bake dessert for your recipe box, I know it!

Caramel Stuffed Krispie Bars | Cookies and CupsThese bars combine my 2 favorite food groups:  Rice Krispies and Sweetened Condensed Milk.

They are really easy too…you do everything in the microwave!

First melt some butter, sweetened condensed milk and caramels together…

Give it at least an hour, but I recommend longer.
They’re actually best the next day, but again, just give it a little time.

Also, I will warn you…these are sweet. Like rahhhly sweet.
And totally delicious.

Description

Caramel Stuffed Krispie Treats are an ooey-gooey no bake dessert!

Ingredients

Scale

Caramel Filling

  • 14 oz caramel pieces, unwrapped
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup butter

Krispie Layer

  • 12 Tbsp butter, divided in half
  • 10 cups Rice Krispie cereal, divided in half
  • 10 cups mini marshmallows, divided: 4 cups, 4 cups & 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 pan, set aside

Caramel Filling

  1. In a large microwave safe bowl combine caramel pieces, sweetened condensed milk and 1/2 cup butter. Microwave on high in 1 minutes increments (stirring after each) until caramels are melted, approx 3-4 minutes.
  2. Stir until smooth, set aside.

Krispie Treats

  1. Take 6 Tbsp butter and 4 cups marshmallows. Heat in microwave for 1 minute, stir, repeat if necessary in 20 second increments until marshmallows are melted. Stir until butter and marshmallow are combined.
  2. Pour 5 cups Krispie Rice Cereal into marshmallow mixture, stir until coated. Press into the bottom of prepared pan.
  3. Pour caramel over top Krispie layer and then sprinkle 2 cups mini marshmallows on top of that.
  4. Refrigerate for 20 minutes until caramel has set.
  5. When caramel has set repeat the krispie layer (step 4) with remaining ingredients. Press final krispie layer on top of caramel.
  6. * TIP ~ Spray a piece of parchment or wax paper lightly with cooking spray and press the krispies lightly and evenly into pan.
  7. Let krispies set up for at least 2 hours before cutting into squares. The caramel layer takes a bit of time to set up.

Ah yes, the awkward silence. Revel in it Shelly. Silence is your FRIEND.

And these treats are my friend. Maybe you should bring them along on outings? Stuff them in your mouth when you feel like you need to say unnecessary words 😉

I’ve been craving good old fashioned rice krispie squares lately and this is totally just taking me over the top!

This is so me! I love RKTreats. I think I’ve told you this before and you always make the best ones…with whole marshmallows and caramel stuffed in…NICE!

  4. I used to come here for the recipes, which of course I still do because every single one is PHENOMENAL, but your blog posts keep me coming back. You are hilarious! Has anyone given you a book deal yet? You need a cookbook and a memoir! I would buy both hahah

  5. Just to point out, you have the Rice Krispies divided into 4, 4, and 2 cups, and the marshmallows in half. They should be the other way around, according to the instructions.

My sister made a similar recipe for a family reunion a few years ago. She made another pan the next day because the first one was devoured. I can attest to how yummy these are.

    1. Yes! good catch! I mixed up the marshmallows and krispies in the recipe! All fixed now! Thanks for letting me know 🙂

      1. You’re welcome–it was pretty clear that it was just a mix-up, but I know that sometimes I just skim a recipe and *think* I know how to make it, and then have a problem because I didn’t read it completely. 🙂

I had planned to make RK bars today, but when melting my marshmallows and butter, rather than turn into a smooth, creamy pool, it morphed into a gelatinous mass that looked kind of like chewed gum. My marshmallows weren’t stale, so I don’t know what happened. Since I had the RK in the bowl already, I just made Scotcheroo bars instead. I was annoyed that I had to dump my marshmallow/butter mess in the garbage, but suppose that it could have been worse–I could have had to dump the bowl, too!
