Salty Churro Toffee Snack Mix
Run, don’t walk, to the kitchen right now and make this.
I feel like that’s all I have to say…
HA. Right. What would this blog be without a whole slew of unsolicited opeenionnnns?
Boring. That’s what it would be.
Anyhow, this snack mix is a riff on my Praline Crack recipe (which you NEED to make if you haven’t already). And between you and me, I should have called it Churro Crack, but the Crack police get on me when I use “crack” in a title. So I opted for the super wordy Salty Churro Toffee Snack Mix, as not to offend.
But between you and me, it’s Churro Crack.

How to Make the Best Snack Mix
It’s so super easy, and really impossible to mess up. Unless you burn it. So don’t do that.
You start with about 5 cups of Oyster Crackers. It’s basically an entire bag. Lay them out on a foil lined baking sheet…

Then boil together some butter and brown sugar and add a dash of cinnamon too. Coat your crackers with that mess…

Stir them to make sure all the crackers get coated evenly.

And bake it up! It will be bubbly and gorgeous.

While it’s in the oven make up a salty, cinnamon sugar…

And as soon as it comes out of the oven sprinkle it all over the top…

Let it cool and then break the crackers apart…

I’m telling you, this stuff is legit.

Make it now, thank me later.

What are oyster crackers? I’ve never heard of them – not everyone lives in the US! Is there an alternative that I could use? x
They are a smaller version of a Saltine cracker…not sure what the equivalent of this would be!
Yum!! Just made this, and oh my gawd it’s dangerous. It would be great on top of some simple baked apples!
What a great idea!!
These made me the hero of the bake sale at work today! 🙂 And i have to admit that while i was putting it in baggies for the sale alot more was going in my mouth then in the baggies because OH MY GOODNESS. Incredible. I can’t say you didn’t warn us! A definite WINNER.
omg just made these with mini ritz crackers as I can’t get oyster here in the uk, will have to give them away as I can’t stop eating them,
Oooh I wish we had mini Ritz!! THat sounds like it would be SOO good!!
I have to laugh because I have made this two times already and am making it for cards tomorrow night – all with your original recipe. I added the vanilla when I added the cinnamon. I noticed it was pretty thick but was able to make it work. (It mixes pretty easy in a bowl, ha!) I will try it with a cup of butter for tomorrow. 😉 My niece is going to make it for her 4H demo, and my family and co-workers just love it. It’s going to become a go-to recipe for sure!
ha! Oh my word!! Well, I am SO SO glad it worked out for you. I feel horrible such a simple typo could make a huge difference, but it totally can! I think you just made the “light” version!! lol!
Lol – no worries, it all worked out and everyone ate it and came back for more…. I do like the idea of a “light” version for sure!!
I wanted to make your Churro toffee snack mix tonight.. but I dont have kosher salt.. can I use regular salt? will that make a big difference?
it sounds so yummy.
thanks!
yep! just cut back on it by 1/4 because kosher salt is coarser!
Do you mean 3/4 tsp regular salt, if I don’t have kosher salt?
yep!
This is suck a creative way to use oyster crackers! And anything churro flavored is a winner!
Hi.
Me & my 8 y/o eagerly attempted to make this treat, but both are our attempts were a bust. Our butter & brown sugar combo was way… to thick and didn’t spread (it was more like a glob). Should I increase the amount of butter used?
Please advise.
Thank you.
Ok, I see the problem! There is a typo in the recipe.. It should be 1 cup of butter, not a 1/2 cup. I apologize for the problem!I hope you give it another shot!
No way would I share that goodness with anyone!! Holy cow! Total amazingness!!
I’m going to try 1 cup of butter next time instead of the 1/2 cup because it was so thick I couldn’t spread it over the crackers.
Ugh, yes! I am so sorry! There is a typo in the recipe, it SHOULD read 1 cup butter, not a 1/2 cup. I fixed it and hope you will give it another try!
I thought it was just me! I had to pour everything into a bowl to try to get it to coat the crackers. By then it was already cooling down so it got a little clumpy and not evenly spread. I also doubled the salt and cinnamon in the topping to make it a little saltier. Even with 1/2 the butter, it was delicious! 😀
The recipe has been fixed since I recognized the typo. Did you just print it out, because 1 cup of butter is the correct amount!
Question: Should I add the vanilla, when I adding the cinnamon? I want to make this today. Just want to make sure I’m doing everything right. Thank you. 🙂
Oh yes! I updated the recipe to make that clear!
Thank you! 🙂
Oh man! I know these would be crazy addictive! I see these and a movie night in my near future 🙂
