This Copycat Chick Fil A Sauce Recipe is Spot On!

We are OBSESSED with this Copycat Chik-Fil-A chicken dipping sauce in our house. I make a double batch of the signature sauce every week…which might seem like a lot, but we eat a ton of chicken recipes! I try to grill 2-3 pounds of chicken on Sunday so we have it made during the week to grab for lunch or a quick dinner. I always use the best chicken marinade recipe, and this dipping sauce is SO good with it!

Like many people, we love Chick-Fil-A nuggets and sauce, but since we *try* to limit the amount of fast food we eat, I decided to try my hand at the sauce at home, because we love it just as much (if not more).

What Is So Special About Chick-Fil-A Sauce?

I get this question a lot, and honesty, I understand the curiosity. If you’ve ever seen that line outside of the Chick Fil A at lunch time you know they must have something people love, a “secret sauce” so to say. And of course the juicy, moist chicken and waffle fries are a huge draw, it’s made only better with their dipping sauce on the side.

What IS Chick Fil A Sauce?

But how does it taste? If you’ve never had Chick-Fil-A sauce it has a slightly smoky, slight sweet flavor with notes of honey mustard and a little tang. It’s an extremely versatile sauce and can be used on any protein like steak, pork, or shrimp, but it awesome on burgers or as a sandwich spread too. There are tons of recipes on the internet for this sauce, and I’ve tried a few, but I tweaked the ingredients a little bit and we love it even more than the original! And now they’re even packaging it and selling it, which is amazing, but my version is MUCH cheaper and equally pretty spot on!

Chick Fil A has a huge range of iconic sauces like Polynesian Sauce (my husband’s favorite), Buffalo, or Honey Mustard, but the classic Chick-Fil-A sauce is a delicious blend of ingredients with a smoky tang, and a creamy base.

Super Easy Chicken Dipping Sauce

Ingredients

This chicken sauce recipe is SO easy and is only 4-ish ingredients you probably have in your pantry right now! You need:

  • Real Mayonnaise like Hellman’s or Duke’s
  • Barbecue Sauce (I always use Sweet Baby Rays)
  • Honey
  • Yellow Mustard & Dijon Mustard

Just mix the mayo, BBQ sauce, honey, and mustards together in a small bowl and you’re all set!

Variations

I worked hard trying to create a perfect copycat recipe, so any alterations you want to make will probably be delicious, but might make it a true copycat! With that said, here are a few ideas:

  • Add some spices. Garlic, black pepper, paprika, turmeric or even cayenne pepper for a little heat!
  • Up the tang. Add a splash of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice.
  • Onion Powder would really be delicious.
  • Use sour cream in place of mayo for more tang, or Miracle Whip to add more sweetness.

Do You Have To Use Two Kinds Of Mustard?

Here’s the deal…you can try all sorts of ingredients combinations, like using honey mustard instead of yellow mustard, or omitting the dijon mustard altogether.

What Brand Of BBQ Sauce Is Best?

Use any brand you prefer, but I find to make it as close to the original sauce as possible you will want to use a sweeter sauce, like Sweet Baby Rays over a sauce that is more vinegar based.

Super easy Chicken dipping sauce will be your favorite sauce ever

Can Chick Fil A Sauce Expire / Storage

This sauce never lasts in my house so I rarely have to worry about it going bad, but homemade Chick Fil A Sauce will be good stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

What Else Could You Dip?

I have a lot of easy recipes on my site that this dip would be great alongside, but here are a few ideas:

  1. Decent, simple dipping sauce. Only thing I’d change is the Sweet Baby Ray’s. It’s overrated and loaded with high fructose corn syrup, which I try to avoid.

  2. OMG!! Absolutely Delicious, made as written for BBQ Sauce I used one I’ve been buying from
FB Bouche’s BBQ Sauce,, got for gift once from a friend and have been hooked since, can’t wait to share with friends , Thank you.

  3. Very good! I doubled the recipe, cut back on the honey, added about 1/4 tsp. each of garlic powder and onion powder, 1 tsp. white vinegar and a few hefty shakes of cayenne for a bit more flavor/tang.
