Things I Am Loving Now…

Hey people! Thought I’d drop in here this fall week and share some stuffs. The things I am loving now…right this very second,

The fall is upon us which means I did this…

Seriously Bath and Body Works fall candles are my kryptonite. Annnd they basically all smell like food. What is WRONG with me?

And I’m equally obsessed with this Salted Caramel Hazelnut Spread from Jif. Which now I’m thinking needs it’s own candle. Ugh.

I’m piling it high on my ice cream.. and also de-healthifying rice cakes.

At least it’s pretty much sweats weather 🙂

As far as clothing goes I am IN LOVE with this cardigan

It’s basically a blanket that you can wear. I am not kidding you guys. If there is one piece of cozy that you want to own this winter, this sweater is it. Mine is in midnight ombré, and it’s a lighter gray that goes to black. LOVE! It is super super soft and flowy. I wear it all the time.

Also, if we’re talking about being in love, I got the iPhone 6. Yep, I am annoying.

Also this. LOVE it. Ladies, read and reread.

And can we talk about this for a minute…I bookmarked that link back in the summer and have read and reread it. Seriously #8 y’all. NUMBER EIGHT!

Want this to be my fall uniform. Love.

Also, I am sorry universe for laughing at this, but I cantstopwontstop. OMG dying. Dude, we’ve all been there.

As for the book stuff…I am smack dab in the middle of nailing down all my recipes for the book…which means I’ve had some great successes…but also epic fails. Which have lead to this…

Yes. That is an entire cake in the trash. (Minus 2 pieces that had to be taste-tested).

I do have to say that I have had some mishaps with recipes…and throwing out a batch of cookies or brownies is one thing, but never have I experienced grief until the day that entire CAKES get tossed.

But for the most part it’s coming along.

Oh before I forget I wanted to ask you.. Pie Crust.. are you guys all butter? or part butter part shortening? I have been playing around with loads of recipes for the book and can’t decide which I like better. I like the IDEA of all butter better, but I think I like the taste of butter/shortening. Ugh. THOUGHTS?

Also loving THIS new line from Bumble for my hair...especially the primer.

It smells great, it doesn’t weigh my hair down AT ALL…and it conditions and protects before styling. I just love it.

And this lip gloss from MAC. The color is Got Style and you guys, it is THE perfect pink. I LOVE the look of a bold pink lip, but have found that on me it looks weird. Ugh. BUT this gloss, is SUCH a flattering pink that has good color but not enough that you look crazy.

I tried to take a selfie to show you, but the lighting was bad…

I promise you it’s gorg. Also, it’s not sticky like the usual MAC Lipglass..but it actually has staying power. Anyhow, I love it.

Also, these sunglasses…I am obsessed. I am THIS close to going back and getting them… will I regret?

So yeah, nothing too major is happening right now, but life is good.

Talk soon friends!

Hi! I’m Shelly and I’m an addict. Of the buttercream sort. I started this site a few years ago as a way to justify my sugary, buttery obsession with desserts. It has worked out well for me so far, because as it turns out you guys all love sugary, buttery desserts too! It feels good to know you're not alone, doesn’t it?

  1. Those B&BW Candles kill me! I swear I pick up a couple every week. I’ve got issues, lol! So happy I get to see you in a few weeks! Feels like it’s been forever! ….those sunglasses are soooo cute!

  2. love these posts of randomness! happy friday for sure!
i’m actually an all shortening pie crust person! original betty crocker style.
love love love the cardigan and sunglasses. fall clothing and accessories are just the BEST!

  3. That cake in the trash hurts my heart, but I’ve so been there. It’s ok. Just take out the trash and move on. You can do it 🙂

PS I vote no on the sunglasses. I like them, but I think they should be twice the size. I know, I’m obnoxious like that.

    I want allll the candles.

  4. All butter pie crust definitely. It gives you the flakiness you want on a pie crust and I think it tastes a lot better. Plus many people have problems with the unhealthiness of shortening due to the trans fat, so I always go with all-butter.

All butter pie crusts! I feel less guilty eating them. Shortening just makes me uneasy because of it’s never-ending shelf life and zero necessary refrigeration.

I’ve never tried the Jiff hazelnut spread (having a hard time switching from Nutella). Might have to try the salted caramel version, though!

  6. I saw this & thought, Oh good, she’s taking a break from the cookbook for a few minutes anyway. Have to have breaks from work (or “work”) or you burnout. Butter & more butter. And it sounds like you’ve already decided to get the sunglasses! Cute cardigan.

When it comes to pie crust, I’m all about lard which is what my grandmothers used. Need a bit of vinegar in the liquid. And I’m talking “real” lard NOT the variety you find in the grocery store. Need to go to a genuine meat market to find it. It makes the flakiest crust!

Shortening pie crust. I have always used my Nana’s pie crust recipe. Mix up all the dry ingredients with the shortening and keep it in an old jar in my cabinet. Shelf stable so no issue with leaving it in the cabinet. When I need a pie crust, I just have to pour out enough dry mix and add cold water, mix and done. So easy and flaky. My kids can totally tell when I cheat and get one of those roll up ones from the store.

  9. I have that same exact sweater, it is cozy! Both butter and shortening pie crusts are great, but it seems like half butter and half shortening give you the best of both worlds…flaky and buttery tasting.

OMG I have that cardigan (otherwise known as a “Blardigan”), but mine is the cocoa color. BTW, do you read PTMT blog? Isn’t the cardigan the best thing ever?! I recently wore mine on an international flight and was soooo glad I had it. Did you buy yours during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale? I hope Santa brings me one in another color 🙂 I highly recommend this cardigan!!

  11. You are a girl after my own heart!!! lol! Total sweater, lip gloss, hair product, baking freak!! My two cents for the pie crust- I am a butter nut!!! I always love reading your blog and never tell ya. I have made so many of your recipes, and they are always a hit!! Keep up the awesome work!

I have been so back and forth with the pie crust! ONe day all butter..one day all shortening.. one day a combo. My mom used to make it with oil (!!). so yeah, I’m officially OVER pie crust 🙂

  12. Monica

BBW candles in the fall! I can’t stop. I think I have 9 Pumpkin Pecan Waffle candles in my candle closet (OK, so it’s really a section of my linen closet, but it’s growing bigger every year). I need to stock up so I can burn them all year. If it doesn’t smell like food, I don’t want it.

  13. Lauren

I am also in the lard pie crust camp, so I don’t think I can help with the butter/shortening decision. I think the flakiness is the most important thing. On another note, that sweater makes me want to curl up and hibernate in it. I think I need it.

O.K. I am new to your site but love it. As far as the butter vs shortening, here is the scoop. Please at least try 3 parts butter to 1 part lard! Alton Brown’s favorite pie crust (www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/pie-crust-recipe.htm). It was delicious. Normally I am an all butter lady but this was very good.
