Pumpkin Butter Frosting

Pumpkin Butter Frosting | www.cookiesandcups.com

This Pumpkin Butter Frosting is so simple!  I topped my favorite Brown Sugar Cupcakes with the creamy frosting for a perfect fall dessert!

This recipe is almost too easy.

It’s only 3 ingredients!

I mean, frosting doesn’t typically have a LOT of ingredients, so it’s not like I reinvented the wheel…

but anyway.

It’s Pumpkin Butter frosting…it’s butter, powdered sugar and pumpkin butter.

Top any cupcake with it…squish it between 2 cookies, eat it with a spoon..whatever…it’s totally festive!

I actually swirled it on top of my favorite brown sugar cupcakes.  They are so soft and perfect for this!

And Pumpkin Butter seems fairly easy to find this time of year.  I got mine at Trader Joe’s, but Amazon has a whole section to choose from.

Cupcakes are a fun alternative to serve at Thanksgiving for those of us who don’t love pie.  Yes, there are people out there.

But like I said, you could frost a cake with this stuff, top a cookie…whatever!  Even bake up a box cake.. this frosting will make it so special no one will know!

Just mix some butter and sugar together…

It will be very stiff before you add in the pumpkin butter…

The great thing about pumpkin butter is that it is already spiced up!  You don’t have to add any extra spiciness to this!

Beat it until it’s creamy…

And then swirl it on a cupcake, if that’s what you’re thinking…

Fun things to top with this frosting…

My favorite Vanilla Cupcakes

It would be great topped on my 2 ingredient pumpkin cookies.

Use my Salted Caramel Cupcake Recipe and use this frosting instead!

Pumpkin Butter Frosting
makes enough frosting to pipe 15 cupcakes
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 3½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup Pumpkin Butter
  1. In bowl of stand mixer beat butter until creamy, 1-2 minutes.
  2. With mixer on low add in powdered sugar. Turn mixer up to medium and beat until the mixture comes together, about 2 minutes. It will be very stiff.
  3. Add in pumpkin butter and beat until incorporated, scarping sides of bowl as needed.
  4. You can add more or less pumpkin butter based on your preference.
I love to top Brown Sugar Cupcakes with this frosting, but feel free to use any cupcake base!

This would be so good upon some ginger cupcakes. I never thought of doing this to normal frosting base.
Wonderful recipe again Shelly!

I always buy pumpkin butter and never know what to do with it, fantastic idea!

Can I just eat it with a spoon instead? 😉

Butter, sugar, PUMPKIN BUTTER = quick, hide the spoons. I could dig into this like most people would dig into a container of yogurt 🙂

Why have I never heard of pumpkin butter? This frosting I want to eat with a spoon, no cupcake needed! I do want those cupcake liners, they are beautiful!

There’s quite a strong possibility that I’ll just eat this frosting. On it’s own. No cupcakes needed.

November 19, 2013 10:12 pm

Not even sure I need the cupcakes!! I could eat this with just my finger and be very happy! Looks awesome!

made this tonite with some pumpkin cupcakes for my lil ones 6th birthday, only needed 1/2 the amount and it came out AWESOME. Glad I picked up the many different apple butter/pumpkin butter from TJ’s the other day.

You just had to go there, didn’t you 🙂 Sounds great for cupcakes, but once you mentioned putting it in between cookies, that was the winner for me!

Oh perfect!! So I bought this pumpkin butter two seasons ago and didn’t end up using even 1/2 of it because it was so strong. It needed to be mellowed out…and in walks Shelly with her butter cream! Done! Perfecto!

FYI – pumpkin butter is incredibly easy to make (probably cheaper if you do it yourself too). If you don’t want to go out and buy a jar, but you have some canned pumpkin and a few basic ingredients, you can make it in a crockpot. I made it last year, and it was fantastic. http://skinnyms.com/slow-cookerpumpkin-butter/

Funny, I was just baking a cake for my sister’s bday this morning and was looking for a luscious frosting. Wish I’d seen your post earlier today!

WOW WOW WOW, just made these and they are DELISH!
I usually don’t like cupcakes very much (yes, i know, how does a cupcake baker not like them) but these are just the right amount of sweetness!

November 21, 2013 8:36 am

Where did you get those beautiful cupcake liners from?

I think I’m just going to have to start ordering groceries on the internet. I obviously need pumpkin butter. And cookie butter. And golden syrup. There’s just too much stuff I can’t get on my island. Great idea!
