This recipe is almost too easy.
It’s only 3 ingredients!
I mean, frosting doesn’t typically have a LOT of ingredients, so it’s not like I reinvented the wheel…
but anyway.
It’s Pumpkin Butter frosting…it’s butter, powdered sugar and pumpkin butter.
Top any cupcake with it…squish it between 2 cookies, eat it with a spoon..whatever…it’s totally festive!
I actually swirled it on top of my favorite brown sugar cupcakes. They are so soft and perfect for this!
And Pumpkin Butter seems fairly easy to find this time of year. I got mine at Trader Joe’s, but Amazon has a whole section to choose from.
Cupcakes are a fun alternative to serve at Thanksgiving for those of us who don’t love pie. Yes, there are people out there.
But like I said, you could frost a cake with this stuff, top a cookie…whatever! Even bake up a box cake.. this frosting will make it so special no one will know!
Just mix some butter and sugar together…
It will be very stiff before you add in the pumpkin butter…
The great thing about pumpkin butter is that it is already spiced up! You don’t have to add any extra spiciness to this!
Beat it until it’s creamy…
And then swirl it on a cupcake, if that’s what you’re thinking…
Enjoy!
Fun things to top with this frosting…
My favorite Vanilla Cupcakes
It would be great topped on my 2 ingredient pumpkin cookies.
Use my Salted Caramel Cupcake Recipe and use this frosting instead!

HOORAY!!!!! I have a jar of that in my fridge right now!!!! Love Trader Joes! Gonna try this ASAP!
Love this easy, festive fall frosting! Amazing photos in this post, too, Shelly! Thanks for sharing.
Funny, I was just baking a cake for my sister’s bday this morning and was looking for a luscious frosting. Wish I’d seen your post earlier today!
FYI – pumpkin butter is incredibly easy to make (probably cheaper if you do it yourself too). If you don’t want to go out and buy a jar, but you have some canned pumpkin and a few basic ingredients, you can make it in a crockpot. I made it last year, and it was fantastic. http://skinnyms.com/slow-cookerpumpkin-butter/
Oh perfect!! So I bought this pumpkin butter two seasons ago and didn’t end up using even 1/2 of it because it was so strong. It needed to be mellowed out…and in walks Shelly with her butter cream! Done! Perfecto!
Oh, my goodness!! I think I could eat the whole bowl! I’d so put this on everything!! 🙂
You just had to go there, didn’t you 🙂 Sounds great for cupcakes, but once you mentioned putting it in between cookies, that was the winner for me!
This looks delicious and your photos are outstanding. Beautiful! May I ask where you got those liners- theyre gorg?!
made this tonite with some pumpkin cupcakes for my lil ones 6th birthday, only needed 1/2 the amount and it came out AWESOME. Glad I picked up the many different apple butter/pumpkin butter from TJ’s the other day.
Seriously, how did I not know Pumpkin Butter was a thing?? This is why I don’t belong in Arkansas.
Please come rescue me. And bring a dozen of these!!
