How To Make these Brownie Batter Krispie Treats

If you have made rice crispy treats before, you will have no problem making these! You just need a few extra ingredients to give them that brownie edge. First and foremost you will need brownie mix.

  1. I add 1 cup of dry brownie mix right into the melted marshmallows to give that boost of brownie batter flavor!

TIP! You could even use cocoa krispies if you wanted to boost up the chocolate flavor even more, but I have found that if you do that, they taste less like “brownie batter”and more just like chocolate. Not a bad thing, mind you, just a little off target.

2. The of course you should chop up some brownies and throw them into the brownie batter krispies as well. And yes, I almost always cheat this step and use premade brownies. If you are an over achiever, or just happen to have some brownies that didn’t get eaten (what?) you can use homemade. I won’t judge you for that, if you don’t judge me for my use of premade. See? We CAN get along!

3. Mix your chopped brownie pieces right into the rice krispie cereal and stir that all together with the melted marshmallow mixture.

4. Press the gooey goodness into a pan and wait as long as you’re physically able to cut them into squares.

How To Store Rice Krispie Treats

  1. If you’re making these ahead I suggest not cutting them and leaving them covered airtight in the pan until you’re ready to serve
  2. When you’re ready to serve place them on a platter, but try your best to keep them covered as much as possible, because this recipe (as is the same with all rice krispie treats) will harden up if left too long uncovered.
  3. To store after they’ve been cut place them in an airtight container or a zip-top bag fpr up to 2 days. I prefer krispie treats the same day or one day later. After that amount of time they tend to get slightly stale.

  1. Wow – that sounds just like my house! At that point my kids say, “Mommy, you scare me when you yell.” Which is when I yell back, ” Why is it that you don’t listen to me unless I yell then?” UGH! So…next time I turn into crazy lady, I’ll make these and feel sane again 🙂

  2. I feel healthier just looking at these! I mean, rice krispies treats are like LIGHT desserts. At least..in my world.

  3. luv what you do

Just when I thought rice krispy treats couldn’t get any better! I have the krispies…just need to pick up a pack of mallows!

    1. This week I tried all different brands to see if there was a taste difference and they all worked great.. I didn’t, though, use generic..I tried Pillsbury, Duncan Hines and Betty Crocker 🙂

  4. I love brownie batter week! Best kind of week there is. Excited to see what else you are coming up with…

The bad part is when I finally make my husband look up from his ipad in the recliner to deal with whatever Jon David isn’t listening about…

Then he looks at me like I’m crazy because OF COURSE, he thinks it’s the first time I’m asking. Also, just because you say things directly IN FRONT of a man, if it isn’t actually TO them, they don’t hear it. It’s like a scientific fact.

I wish I had one of these krispies right now…

Who am I kidding, I want the whole dang pan.

  6. Julie @ Table for Two

oh my good gosh, i’m loving this series! i love how you incorporated brownie batter into the desserts i never would’ve thought to incorporate it in…lol, my mom is basically the type of person who does that nagging and won’t take me not listening to her opinion for an answer..gets pretty annoying!

  7. Dorothy @ Crazy for Crust

Oh man, I totally get you. I hate that 400th time, because it’s usually a yell and then there are tears or anger or whatever and “jeez mom you don’t have to yell at me!” Then my head really spins off its axis. I love how you put brownie pieces in there, so yum!
