This easy homemade honey mustard recipe is tangy, sweet, a little spicy, and ready in 5 minutes! It’s a perfect sauce for dipping everything from chicken nuggets to veggies and pretzels, and it also doubles as a salad dressing or sandwich spread.

I have been on a bit of a condiment kick lately! I posted my Greek salad dressing recipe last month, and then my chicken dipping sauce not too long after. Here I am today, posting another sauce! This sweet-tangy homemade honey mustard recipe is perfect as a dip with juicy chicken tenders or meatballs. Or, grill up some honey mustard chicken for a total winner of a meal.

What Makes This the Best Honey Mustard Recipe

  • It’s SO easy! This easy honey mustard dip is quick to whip up with 5 ingredients in 5 minutes or less.
  • Use it with everything. Honey mustard sauce wears many hats as a dip, marinade, sandwich spread, and even a salad dressing in my house. Elevate any dish with a drizzle of sweet-tangy sauce.
  • Better than a bottle. There’s nothing like the freshness and flavor of homemade honey mustard. I also love that making it from scratch means that I can adapt this recipe any way I like!

Gather These 5 Ingredients

What’s so great about this zesty honey mustard recipe is that, most likely, you have all the ingredients in your kitchen right now. You’ll need the following. Scroll down to the printable ingredients list in the recipe card for the full measurements.

  • Honey – One-half of our star flavor. If you don’t have honey, you won’t technically be making honey mustard, but maple syrup makes a good substitute.
  • Mustard – My recipe uses a combination of Dijon mustard and yellow mustard. The former adds a mild creaminess while the latter brings the heat.
  • Mayonnaise – For a lighter sauce, swap mayo with Greek yogurt.
  • Seasonings – Garlic powder (or onion powder) and an optional pinch of cayenne pepper.

How to Make Honey Mustard

To make your honey mustard sauce, simply combine all of the ingredients above in a bowl and whisk so that it’s well combined. Your sauce is ready to use! Of course, you can use your honey mustard right away, or you can refrigerate it. I actually find that this honey mustard tastes better after a few hours in the fridge. The flavors meld together the longer it sits!

Ways to Use Honey Mustard

If your mind goes immediately to dipping chicken nuggets whenever you think of honey mustard, you’re not alone! In case you’re looking for a few other tasty ways to use it, try these ideas:

  • As a vegetable dip
  • Brushed on top of salmon and baked
  • Add a few spoonfuls into your mashed potatoes for a huge flavor boost!
  • Brush it on cooked carrots
  • Stir it into tuna salad or chicken salad for sandwiches
  • Marinate chicken in honey mustard before grilling
  • Use it as a topping for burgers and sandwiches
  • Drizzled on top of steak or as a dip for steak bites

Easy Honey Mustard Dressing for Salads

This honey mustard sauce is GREAT on salads! You can drizzle it over everything from green salads to couscous salad exactly as it’s written. Or, with a few simple tweaks to the recipe, you can make an easy honey mustard dressing:

  • Add a little buttermilk in place of the mayonnaise.
  • Use white vinegar instead of the yellow mustard. This thins out the consistency and gives the sauce a bit more vinegar punch, which is great for salads!

How to Store

  • Refrigerate. Store your honey mustard sauce in a sealed jar or airtight container. Properly stored, it can last in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
  • Freeze. Yes, you can freeze your homemade honey mustard! Store it in a freezer-safe container and freeze it for up to 3 months. Thaw the sauce in the fridge before you use it.
