Krispie Treat Christmas Tree

This Krispie Treat Christmas Tree is the easiest and most festive dessert you’ll make all season!

I love this time of year.  I kinda hate the cold weather, but if there’s ever an acceptable time for cold, the holidays are it.

Honestly, who doesn’t love a season where eating vast amounts of cookies is not only acceptable, but encouraged…a season where sequined clothes and glittery make-up are called “festive”, not tacky…and a season where you can wear sweatpants and actually have a reason for it?  *Ahem* The reason being because it’s cold outside, not because you have consumed 7 dozen cookies this week, thank you very much.

And let’s talk about the mail this time of year…overall the mailman tends to get a bad rap, but THIS month I anticipate his arrival.  All month long he comes bearing fun holiday cards and online purchases…it’s kinda like Christmas everyday!

I try to soak in every minute of December because once January 1 rolls around I am living in the land of endless winter, no sparkly lights, credit card debt and unfulfilled resolutions.  Not cool, January, not cool at all.

Plus, all the cookies seem to disappear in January, which really puts a damper on my spirits.  You know everyone is “dieting” and “eating healthy”.  Blech.

So yeah, I plan on living it up this month.  You can pretty much find me on any given day wearing sequined sweats, glittery make-up and stuffing cookies in my face by the dozen.  I’m cute.

Now in my endless efforts to impress you but still be a lazy slouch, I made a cute treat that will take you just a few minutes to prepare.

I realized I hadn’t had an encounter with my marshmallow mistress in a while, so I decided that it was time for another installment of Shelly’s obsession with Krispie Treats.

These are green and look like a Christmas Tree.  The end.

Use a basic rice krispie treat recipe but when your marshmallows are about half way melted add in some green food coloring.  You want to get a nice deep green color.  I added in about 1/4 teaspoon of green gel food coloring, but adjust to your desired color…the amount you use also depends on the type and brand of food coloring, so just eyeball it…

Continue stirring until all the marshmallows are melted and the color is distributed evenly.

Stir in your krispie cereal…

And then press into your prepared pan…

Let the krispie treats cool for about 15 minutes until you are ready to assemble your “tree”.

Cut into evenly sized squares, I recommend 1 1/2- 2 inch squares.

Arrange your squares on a plate in the shape that you would like your tree.  I opted for a square based tree, but you could certainly make your tree round.

Just continue stacking the treats on top of each other until you run out of treats.  I cut my last treat into a triangle shape for the top and made a star out of Laffy Taffy. I decorated the rest of the tree with some mini M&Ms, but use your imagination!
