My Kids Favorite Brownies

These soft brownies are topped with a thin fudgy icing that you pour right on! These are easily my kid’s most favorite brownies!

My Kid’s Favorite Brownies!

So this homemade brownie recipe is a family classic…one of those things that my mom made for me growing up. It’s a little different than a classic fudgy brownie, but just as delicious. In fact, the reason that they’re my kid’d favorite it that they have a layer of pourable chocolate frosting on top that melts right into the brownie, while leaving a crusty icing coating. It’s a lot like the type of frosting you pour onto a Texas Sheet Cake, or my Sunday Chocolate Cake.

What To Expect:

  • A classic soft chocolate brownie topped with rich chocolate frosting poured onto the brownies while they’re still warm!
  • Brownies that are super family-friendly made without coffee or espresso. Some kids (and adults) don’t prefer that intense chocolate flavor, which makes these perfect for birthday parties and kids events.
  • The brownies are thick and chewy and perfectly sweet.
  • A one bowl brownie recipe made with cocoa powder and only 6 ingredients in total (not including the frosting!)

How To Store Brownies:

  • I have always found that brownies get more moist the longer they sit uncut. I love making them the day ahead covering them airtight in the pan I baked them in and then cutting right before I’m ready to serve.
  • They will be great stored airtight at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • If they are cut, store them airtight at room temperature as well. Brownies tend to dry out a little if they’re stored pre-cut, but I know this is sometimes impossible to avoid. Wrapping them individually in plastic wrap is the perfect way to avoid pre-cut brownies from drying out, but you definitely don’t have to do this. Just make sure they’re as airtight as possible.
  • You can absolutely freeze these as well airtight for up to 30 days for best freshness. Thaw them at room temperature!

As a kid, my go to brownie recipe was one found in a Betty Crocker’s cookbook. I kept 3 brothers supplied. Although the ingriedients are different the consistency and taste of the brownies are very similar…yours a bit better and yes, maybe the best I’ve tasted. Yours use coco (easier) & more eggs but no baking soad and salt.
The one place I changed the receipt was the icing…I made a thinner icing using just a bit more than 1 cup of powdered sugar. The 2 1/2 cups seems overkill to me but I often make brownies with no icing.
    These are fabulous! Really. BFP

  2. Made these for my boyfriend’s kids who don’t typically like traditional brownies… but these they LOVED!! Your recipes are always a hit!!

  3. Love this recipe and I’ve made it so many times since it’s been posted. It always turns out and we use 3/4 cup of butter instead of the 1 cup. I’ve also made it with alternative flours, egg replacement, and coconut oil. It still turns out well.

  4. Love these brownies! I followed the recipe exactly, but cooked for about 5 additional minutes (I usually have to do this with my oven) and they came out perfect. Planning on making another batch this afternoon to bring to my daughter’s office tomorrow and again next week for a party. So easy and delicious!

  5. Made these yesterday because I actually had all the ingredients on hand!! They are so delicious!! My son raved about them and declared them the best brownies ever! Very rich and fudgy. I like how it makes a lot of servings, so great for a party! Keeper recipe….thank you!!

If I could give this recipe more than 5 stars…..I surely would. This is one of the simplest, most delicious brownie recipes I have ever made. We had company for five days and I was looking for a quick dessert that would please everyone. Well…..this certainly did. Does fighting over whose brownie was bigger or how many somebody already had count as a keeper recipe? I sure think so. Simply amazing recipe. Thanks for sharing.

    1. i really liked your brownies they were so delicious i son and family really liked it and thank you so much for the recipes i didn’t know how to make them at first but know i no how to make them thank you so much

  7. LOVE these brownies! I added chocolate chips to the batter becuase why not! I did increase the baking time by 10+ minutes becuase the middle wouldn’t set. When I frosted them I realized they were still pretty gooey so I refrigerated for a bit and that did the trick. They were so delicous…like if brownies and fudge had a baby. Perfect superbowl party treat!
