Dreamy Peppermint Sugar Cookie Bars

Sometimes you just need to have a good, quick, festive treat in your arsenal, that’s also incredibly yummy.

Two frosted Peppermint Sugar Cookie bars, stacked

These are that.  This is it.  Here it is.

I have become slightly obsessed with mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar and whipped cream together lately.  It’s basically the perfect dessert in my book.  A little like cheesecake, a little like mousse, and a little like frosting.  Anything that can cover all those bases in one spoonful has my vote.

So I did what any normal person would do.

I slathered it all over the top of a cookie bar.

I did something very similar a while back with these Dreamy Oreo Brownies…remember?

But this time I switched it up and made it holiday-ish.

And I used Candy Cane Kisses, which are my December addiction…

So let’s talk Dreamy Peppermint Sugar Cookie Bars…

Squares of peppermint cookie bars on a red and green holiday-themed table
A tube-shaped package of Peppermint Sugar Cookie dough

First, you are going to start this whole situation with a short-cut…
Pillsbury has done all the heavy lifting here and made Peppermint Sugar Cookie Dough.
Thanks guys.

(If you can’t find this dough, no problem..I have a simple fix in the recipe below)

Peppermint sugar cookie dough pressed into a 9x13 baking dish
Baked peppermint cookie bars in a 9x13 baking dish
Red KitchenAid stand mixer with whisk attachment

Just spread it all in a 9×13 pan.
Bake it up and let it cool completely…
Meanwhile make some whipped cream…

Then mix your powdered sugar and cream cheese together…

I did double bowl duty, using one bowl for the whipped cream, the other for the cream cheese and powdered sugar.

Collage of 3 photos of chopped candy cake kisses being added to a stand mixer bowl
Peppermint cream cheese frosting on a stand mixer blade
Peppermint cream cheese frosting being spread over peppermint cookie bars in a 9x13 baking dish
A hand holding a square of peppermint cookie bars with peppermint cream cheese frosting

Next chop up some of those Candy Cane Kisses and add them into the cream cheese/powdered sugar mixture…
Mix those in all nice-like…
Fold in your whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture and spread it on top of your cooked cookie…
Then all you have to do is chill it for a bit and eat!

And eat, and eat and eat…

  1. I made these last night & they are soo dreamy!! I couldn’t find that cookie dough so I just used 2 regular sized sugar cookie dough packs then added 1 tsp of peppermint extract, 6 Tbsp of flour & 6-7 crushed up candy canes (from an old Pampered Chef recipe I had called Candy Cane bars-these were better!!). Oh my- your frosting is to die for! I just love your recipes Shelly 🙂

  2. So, I haven’t actually tried these yet (the eating, not the making) but I have tasted each part along the way. 😉 I have not been able to find candy cane kisses this year (what?!?) so I substituted some white chocolate and candy canes pulverized in the blender. Mixed with the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and whipped cream, the topping is divine. Like I could just sit on the couch with the bowl in my lap and a spoon. Also, I used an 11×14 jelly roll pan instead so I could get more cookies from the recipe. There was plenty of frosting to cover (it seems it might have been super thick in 9×13). Just some tips for options! Now I will go to sleep so I can wake up and eat these cookies or breakfast…

  3. These look so yummy!! I am so going to make and share these!! I am having trouble finding the cookie dough…do you have a suggestion for a substitute? Is there crunchy peppermint in the dough or more of a creamy peppermint chip? Add peppermint extract? Do you think you could add peppermint to a ready made dough and get the same result? Thanks so much!!!

  4. Live a Sweet Life

Love peppermint and love sugar cookies. I don’t think these would last until Christmas! I have to agree with you cream cheese, powdered sugar and whipped cream make a perfect topping for, well, anything! Then you added some peppermint, seriously awesome.

Oh my gosh YES. If we weren’t driving 15 hours for Christmas, I would totally be bringing these with me…

Eat and Eat and eat til I fall over you mean. My goodness I don’t think I’ve ever been this intrigued by a cookie bar before! And I love the cookie dough shortcut – always a plus when things get hectic. Yum!
