Hot Chocolate Cookies stacked

Hot Chocolate Cookies are thick, delicious chocolate cookie loaded with milk chocolate and mini marshmallows!

These Hot Chocolate Cookies are sweet, thick, chocolate cookies, that are so easy to make! The chocolate flavor is mild, but delicious, with ultra soft centers and slightly crisp edges. Imagine that creamy taste of hot chocolate in cookie form.

These aren’t overly chocolatey cookies.  If you would like to up the chocolate factor here, you could sub in some cocoa powder for some of the hot chocolate mix. I’d do half and half.

This chocolate cookie recipe is definitely great for a snow day, but I’d serve these cookies all year long, especially at the end of the season when you want to try and use up your hot chocolate mix!

How To Make Hot Chocolate Cookies

How do you make Hot Chocolate Cookies?

The dough for these cookies is super easy! It’s a simple cookie recipe that and you just add some hot chocolate mix straight into the dough! You don’t need to chill the dough, so these will be ready to eat in under 30 minutes!!

What Kind of Hot Chocolate Should I Use?

You can use any kind you want!! You can use the kind with mini marshmallows included, or not…because you add more marshmallows to the dough. I REALLY recommend you find the tiny dehydrated marshmallows (called Mallow Bits) They work perfectly in this recipe! I hav e found them at Target, Wal-Mart, my local supermarket, or on Amazon!

I linked to the ones I buy from Amazon in the shoppable image above!

What If I Can’t Find The Dehydrated Marshmallows?

If you can’t find them, I don’t recommend that you use Mini Marshmallows in their place, as they melt during baking and can create a mess.

What you could do is place a few marshmallows on top of the cookies when they are almost done baking so they will melt partially on top…just an idea.

Can You Use Milk Chocolate Chips Instead of Chopped?

Yes absolutely!! But as always, the better quality the chocolate, the better results (and flavor) you will have!

My kids go crazy for these cookies and I know you will too!

*I used Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate in this recipe, but you could use any brand!

I don’t envy you for that vacation. At least the kids had fun! Love the possibilities with these cookies – so many tips! 🙂

  2. Elaine @ Cooking to Perfection

Yum! I have tried a few different hot chocolate cookie recipes, but I’ve never thought to top them with Marshmallow Buttercream. Can’t think of anything else that would make these cookies even better!

  3. Amber | Bluebonnets & Brownies

I love love love these. I need to pick up some more marshmallow bits. I might have eaten the last set straight from the tube..

  4. Caroline @ chocolate & carrots

That goodness for cookies to calm our nerves. That sounds oh-so-not fun. At least you now have cookies and the kiddies had fun! 🙂

  5. Michelle @ Brown Eyed Baker

Love this cookie concept! Also, I swore off water parks over 10 years ago when I saw some suspicious bathing suit malfunctions that left me a little queasy. I’m sure I’ll have to go to them again once I have kids, but for now I’m still boycotting! 😉

  6. Reading this at work, just before lunch wasn’t the brightest idea I have ever had. Now I’m craving cookies!! Yum xx

  7. Heather @ Sugar Dish Me

Heyyyy— Great Wolf Lodge (in NC) is right up the road from me! But I’ve never been there. I would totally pass up a water park for cookies. Is that bad?

  8. sue @ cakeballs, cookies and more

I feel ya, my kid loves that place, me well its not the worst place to go, but those stairs kill you! A few of these cookies and I would be fine though.

  9. Colleen @ What's Baking in the Barbershop?!

I love this idea of adding hot chocolate mix to the cookie batter! These cookies look like perfection, especially with that amazing sounding marshmallow buttercream on top. Wowzahs.

Water Parks are not my favorite. Nor are anything else involving half naked people, limited seating, crowds of children, and the risk of drowning. Wears a sister out, fo sheez.

These cookies though…they could be a favorite. Love hot chocolate!!
