Oreo Cookie Filling Dip

Oreo Cookie Filling is the best part of the cookie, and I’ve created a spot-on dupe that is super easy to prepare and can be used as a dip for fruit, cookies, and pretzels, or as a cake or homemade cookie filling too!

Why You’ll Love Oreo Cookie Filling

This seems like an unbelievably silly question. Isn’t the filling the best part of the Oreo? Anyhow, I created this recipe WAY back in 2013, and have made it over and over since then, but thought I would update the pictures a bit since I just created a video on TikTok and Instagram highlighting this true masterpiece of a recipe.

  • SUPER easy! You’ll have a bowl of Oreo cookie filling in a matter of minutes. All you need is a bowl and a mixer! And a spoon of course to eat!
  • Spot On Dupe! I tried lots of variations of this recipe when I created it, and I feel like this is about the closest you can get!
  • Versatile! You can of course use this cookie filling as a dip for cookies, pretzels, crackers etc. But you can also use it as a cake filling, a thick spread of frosting, or sandwiched between two cookies of your choice!

Oreo Cookie Filling Ingredients

The full list of ingredients with measurements is at the bottom of this post in the recipe card! The recipe is super easy and comes together quickly with just a hand mixer!

  • Vegetable Shortening. I know, I know, this is one of those ingredients I try to avoid, but in efforts to create a real “dupe” I had to use it. You can absolutely use all butter in place of the shortening, but you won’t get the same exact taste.
  • Butter. I used salted butter in this recipe. You can skip this and use all shortening if you prefer, as I believe that true Oreo filling doesn’t include real butter, but all shortening left a strange film in my mouth that I was able to avoid with the balance of butter. Plus, it just tastes good!
  • Vanilla extract. Just a tiny bit to give it some flavor!
  • Granulated Sugar. Just a tablespoon extra of granulated sugar added in to the filling gives it the slightest texture that I feel like matches the original cookie filling!
  • Powdered Sugar. Powdered sugar (or confectioners sugar) creates a smooth, creaminess while sweetening.
  • Hot Water. You need to add some water to smooth and thin out the filling! Using hot water ctreates instant creaminess.

How To Make Oreo Cookie Filling

This really couldn’t be easier. Simply all you do is add all the ingredients into a large bowl and use your electric mixer to mix it until smooth and creamy!

How To Use Oreo Cookie Filling

Obviously eating this with a spoon is an option, but here are a few more uses for your cookie filling:

  • Sandwiched between 2 homemade cookies. This would be so good in between 2 Snickerdoodles!
  • As a cake filling. How good would this be as a filling to my perfect chocolate cake?
  • On a dessert board surrounded by pretzels, graham crackers, and fruit as a dip!
This is my youngest, Max, way back in 2013. I had to keep this photo on the website for my own personal amusement. He was always the Oreo filling king!

I created this recipe back in 2013 and have updated the images and helpful tips in 2025.

  1. Can you even believe that my honey PREFERS regular Oreos, and says the double stuff is just “too much stuff.” Yep, I know, he’s insane.

You just got me in DEEP trouble. The filling is my favorite part and I’ll actually take out the filling and save it for last after I make my way through the cookies (Oh, what a hard thing that is to do…)! Now, I can just bypass the cookies all together!

  3. I always loved taking apart my oreos and layering all the insides to make a mega, mega oreo! Great idea!

Too funny!!! I just HAD to share this recipe on my blog today.

The Oreo filling dip reminds of a story about a guy I used to date. Isn’t it strange how a simple thing like Oreos can be such a topic and memory jogger?

What does Double Stuffed Oreos vs. Original Oreos have to do with dating? Go to my blog and find out.

      1. I had forgotten about him saying it was a ‘deal breaker’ until I read your post. Again, I didn’t care… I compromised by taking his regular oreos and doubling up the cream filling myself 🙂 For Christmas one year he actually purchased me a cake pan to bake cakes to look like an oreo cookie. I guess I should have taken his comment seriously THEN… but I didn’t. I fell head over heels in love with him… and then he dumped me. Ugh! I still have the cake pans. I plan on baking a yummy chocolate cake and fill it with your yummy recipe.

Keep up the great recipes! I don’t make most of them… but love to read about them.

Oh my … have mercy!!! Where has this been all my life? My mouth is literally watering…

  6. If you are using the Oreo cookie for chocolate cookie crumbs, you really want the regular Oreos. Otherwise you have way too much filling. And I know someone who would be willing to take that extra filling off your hands.

    Yum.

  7. I can’t stand it. I mean that in the best possible way. This may be as addicting as that peanut butter spread you made back in January. Holy cow.
