I feel like a chewy, fudgy brownie recipe is always one you are glad to see on my site. I love trying new variations of brownies, and have so many on my site that I make on the regular. I have boys, so brownies are always a treat I can make in a pinch that everyone will be happy about.

Why I love brownies as a quick dessert is because they really go together quickly and you don’t even have to break out your stand mixer, which is always a win in my book!

Why Do You Use Melted Chocolate In This Recipe Instead Of Cocoa Powder?

In this brownies recipe, I use melted chocolate instead of cocoa powder because if gives your brownies a deeper chocolate flavor, as well as adding to the thick, dense texture. A brownie made with cocoa powder, like My Kid’s Favorite Brownies, are fantastic, but you don’t get that same fudgy texture.

What Flavors of M&M’s Would Be Good In Brownies?

This is a fantastic place to get creative with flavor combos! I used regular Milk Chocolate M&M’s in this recipe, but M&M’s have really upped their game in the last few years with amazingly fun varieties. Here are a few options that I would love:

  • Peanut M&M’s – A huge classic!
  • Mini M&M’s – They sell these down the baking aisle in bags and are PERFECT for baking! I usually opt for the minis in my cookies and brownies!
  • Peanut Butter M&M’s – The best M&M candy. Fight me.
  • Pretzel M&M’s – These could add a fun crunch!
  • Almond M&M’s – If you’re an almond lover these could be good! Plus you could add 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract into the batter to add a little extra almond flavor!
  • Seasonal M&M’s like Mint, Coconut, Candy Corn, Hazelnut, Coffee – You can’t go wrong!

These Super Fudgy Brownies are loaded with you favorite chocolate candy, M&M’s!


  • 2 cups semisweet chopped chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&M’s


  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Line a 9×9 baking dish with foil and coat it with nonstick spray. Set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate and butter, and melt over medium-low heat, stirring constantly. Once the chocolate is melted, remove the pan from the heat immediately.
  3. Whisk both the sugars into the chocolate and add the eggs, one at a time, whisking constantly, until evenly combined. Next mix in the vanilla until smooth. Stir in the salt and flour until they’re evenly incorporated. Stir in 1/2 cup of the M&M’s, the chocolate chips and pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining M&M’s evenly on top of the brownie batter.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted 2- inches from the side comes out clean.
  6. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

  1. Fantastic recipe, I have used numerous brownie recipes and this one is going to be my new go to recipe! I followed the recipe, apart from swapping butter for olivani. Not only is the end result fudgey and delicious, the recipe is quick and easy to follow and only uses a saucepan, (no mixing bowls required) so minimal washing up! Looking forward to trying different variation instead of the m & ms. Thank you for the brilliant recipe!

  3. This is the BEST brownie recipe I’ve ever had. The directions are completely accurate and the end results are perfection.

  4. They look delicious and my kitchen smells amazing, but I am going on 50 min now and they are still not cooked in the middle. A little bit of fudge I can handle, but my toothpick is picking up liquid! I think next time I may need to do them at 350 for 30 instead of 325.

  6. I made these last night to bring into work today and they are incredible! Sooooooooooo chocolatey! I had some caramel M&Ms so I used those in the brownies and I found a tube of Christmas mini M&Ms in my husbands desk drawer (leaving those poor sad Christmas M&Ms this long without eating them is just so wrong!) so I sprinkled those on top! Merry Christmas (in July!)!!!!!

  7. I used Cadbury mini eggs leftover from Easter.???

    I had to cook them about 50 minutes to get the clean toothpick 2 inches from the edge, but they were worth the wait. A big hit at home and work, insanely rich and fudgey.
