These crazy simple Soda Can Cupcakes are made with just a can of soda and a box of cake mix. It’s like magic, especially when it hits your taste buds!
I am all about a shortcut and these cupcakes are the epitome of shortcuts!!
I while back I made this cake. It had 2 ingredients and was really delicious…So we’re gonna do that again today. All you need are 2 things…cake mix and a can of soda.
Seriously!
Why in the world would I ever use eggs and oil again?
I saw this idea on Pinterest, but apparently I forgot to Pin it and searching again and again I couldn’t find the source…but I did a quick google search and found that it’s all over, so I don’t feel so bad.
Soda Can Cupcakes.
Here’s what you need….
I used Funfetti and Cranberry Splash Sierra Mist. It made the cupcakes a pretty pink color. You couldn’t really taste the cranberry or the Sierra Mist at all. Maybe a stronger flavor soda would give more flavor. BUT it tasted like Funfetti cake, and that’s good with me!
**I know you are going to ask this…I don’t know if this works with diet soda. Well, I am sure it works, BUT after a few quick searches I saw some sites saying it is dangerous to heat up artificial sweeteners…So I don’t know. I mean, if I believed everything on the internet I would be transferring all my dollars into a Nigerian Bank account, chain emailing all my friends so I will have good luck and never drinking pop rocks with soda, which is actually fun and tasty. So with that said, I am not a scientist, I do not know if you will die a slow, painful death if you bake with diet coke…but I do know I am certainly not the person you should be asking about healthy food alternatives…so use your best discretion.
How to Make Soda Can Cupcakes
Pour a can of soda into your dry cake mix. Use room temperature soda please.
Using a whisk, mix your cake mix and soda until most of the lumps are gone.
I will look like this…
Fill your lined muffin tins about 1/2 – 2/3 full of batter. You won’t get 24 cupcakes like you would if you followed the instructions. I got about 17. The batter is a slightly thicker than regular cake mix batter.
After you’ve baked them you can see the texture…yum!
And now decorate them however you would like. I made a batch of buttercream and played around a bit.
Cute cupcakes always taste better, I’m pretty sure of it.

soda can cupcakes-my family did not like these cupcakes. They tended to fall apart easily and were too light and airy-didnt seem to have the flavor. I will go back to my usual way of making cupcakes adding pudding.
Thanks for the giggle today. I really needed that. Any I must admit, it was funnier because I also have that evil side within and laughing when I’m nervous or when something is absolutely is not supposed to be funny is what gets me through this crazy life! Thanks again.
I totally loose it when I hear someone talking and they have a lisp. I have had to excuse myself on several occasions because I have, in the past, laughed in peoples faces who have had speech impediments. Can’t help it, I just explode with laughter over speech problems.
Then Angela, I would hate for you to meet my son. He is 22 and stutters.
My mom did this with chocolate cake and cherry coke. We could taste that it was different and I certainly don’t like it. Eggs and oil any day please!
would this work if I used soda from a 2L bottle and just measured off the same amount that’s in a soda can? or would there is a difference?
great idea, thanks!
I think that would be fine!! NO reason it wouldn’t work 🙂
I used bottled generic diet lemon-lime and it worked great.
these sound amazing!!! so all the mixes i buy are “add eggs and oil” am i subbing something with the soda?
at least for cake mix! Not sure if it would mwork with brownies… Guess I’ll have to try that next!
I am known for laughing at people who fall; I aided and abetted the nicknaming of an acquaintance, ‘Gravy’, due to the dollop left over on her chin; I cringe and snicker at bathroom noises; I too run from the mom losing control, all the while reinforcing how good a mom I am to my boys. You are not alone!! And I am now sooooo extremely happy knowing I have a room temperature can of Dr. Pepper and a triple chocolate cake mix in the pantry. Now there is dessert for our King Ranch chicken casserole!! Maybe this will be a new Wednesday theme – mid-week dessert!!
Love this! mmmm I once saw a mutual friend @ my job and she was a breastfeeding mother and had leaked, a lot. I did not say anything to her about it and I felt bad about it afterward. All my coworkers were mortified that I didn’t alert her to it. I didn’t know what to say, “Hey, you sprung a leak”. I don’t think so! LOL
I think you are super funny! I was cracking up. I am totally a judger like you! Thanks for the recipes!
I have made cupcakes and cakes with white cake mix and sprite zero before! And it was so delish!!! I would top with sugar free icing and it tasted amazing and didnt taste diet at all!! you should try it 🙂
